As you make your way from Kamariotissa to Pachia Ammos you come across a few signs that make a pretty bold claim: Paradisos - the best panorama of the island.
Paradeisos is a tavern in Profitis Ilias. Although goat is a staple dish in many tavernas in Samothraki, and you'll find it on most menus, prepared in a number of ways, goat on the spit is best eaten in this particular village.
Taverna Paradeisos is across the street, a few houses away from O Vrachos (another point of reference for the goat aficionados). As promised by the signs, the vine-shaded terrace offers an unobstructed view of the sea. On the horizon, you can make out the shape of Thasos Island and the silhouette of Mount Athos (The Holy Mountain) on the Halkidiki peninsula.
As expected, the most popular dish is goat on the spit. "The brave" can try kokoretsi (a type of meat roll made out of goat organs).
If you don't like goat meat, there are some options for you: grilled chicken and pork, burgers and sausages, liver and other fried organs or paidakia (lamb ribs).
The appetizers are the typical ones - tzatziki, melitzanosalata (eggplant spread), tyrokafteri (spicy cheese cream), bougiourdi (oven-baked feta with tomatoes and peppers), stuffed peppers or roasted eggplant slices, eggplant saganaki, etc.
As for salads, you can choose one of the following: green, tomatoes, roasted peppers, chorta (boiled or sauteed green leaves) or Greek salad (choriatiki).
The house wine is made by the owners and so are the tsipouro, the feta cheese, the olives and the olive oil. There is also a selection of beers and refreshments available and island-produced wine.
At the end of the meal, there's usually a complimentary plate of sweets, which often includes chaslamas (a traditional semolina-based cake with cinnamon).
