Discover Samothraki
Samothraki (Samothrace) is not like any other Greek island. It is a special destination where mass tourism has no place, boasting a loyal community of travelers who return year after year. It features imposing mountain peaks, lush vegetation, and numerous rivers that form waterfalls and exotic-looking natural pools (vathres) where you can cool off in the summer. It doesn't have the classic sandy beaches; instead, you'll find stony, wild, and hidden shores with crystal-clear waters that make you feel truly free. There are no luxury hotels or ostentatious restaurants, but you will find hospitable people and traditional, simple and delicious food.
It is said that those who arrive for the first time either fall immediately and irrevocably in love with the island, or turn back and never set foot on it again. There is no middle ground, and the island chooses its own visitors. Samothraki is a destination for those in love with authentic and rural Greece, with the mountain trekking and the raw nature, and with the hippie and bohemian lifestyle. If you are among them, discover it step by step and allow yourself to be charmed by an island unlike any other!
Samothraki Travel Guide
All the information you will find on this website is the result of many trips to Samothraki - year after year, several times a year, including during the winter. I've walked all over the island, map in hand; I've met the locals, done my research, and the opinions, recommendations, and tips here are the result of my own personal experiences. The texts are written by me, and the photos are from my personal archive. I hope you'll find it useful when planning your vacation. This is information I wish I had the first time I visited the island which, even after so many trips and explorations, still keeps some of its secrets well-hidden.
