Taverna O Psaras is on the northern shore of the island, on the right side of the road as you come from Kamariotissa, right before the harbor and Therma Beach. It's one of the few fish tavernas of Samothraki.
The tavern opened in 2020 after a few years break. People who come regularly to the island might remember that around 2016, it was about a kilometer away in a spot now occupied by Argo, also a fish taverna.
Taverna O Psaras is first about fish and seafood, hence its name means "The Fisherman" in Greek.
Before going any further, a fair warning is in order - you won't find anything fancy here (as is the case for most establishments in Samothraki). It's a simple place with good food - just some tables in a yard by the road, under the cool shade of the plane trees. I wholeheartedly recommend it (along with Taverna Akrogiali in Lakkoma) if you like eating fish and other sea creatures.
The fish dishes are not written in the menu, because they depend on what's available and the season. It's best to ask Dimitris or the waiter what is the catch of the day. Ask also about the size of the fish - some are big and can be split by two people. The price is per kilogram. Next to the grilled fish, they'll bring you oregano and a bottle of ladolemono (olive oil and lemon sauce) that is mixed vigorously and poured over the fish.
The seafood pasta costs 20 € but is pretty big and may be enough for two people.
Other usual dishes are fish soup, grilled octopus (depending on the season), steamed mussels, fried or grilled shrimp and calamari, smoked mackerel, sardines on the grill and fried anchovies.
For those who don't enjoy fish, there's chicken or pork souvlaki and steak.
Among the salads, Katerina's Dakos (Cretan salad) stands out. It's prepared with raw and dried tomatoes, grated feta cheese, rusks, arugula and balsamic vinegar.
The appetizers include the local feta cheese, kefalotyri (a type of hard cheese) on the grill or the spicy cheese spread (htypiti in the menu).
As for drinks, there's wine, beer and local tsipouro with or without anis.
